The Birth of Ventriloquism: David Arn’s Journey Beyond His Own Voice

In 2024, on his way to creating his fifth album, David Arn lost his voice. Never one to be discouraged, he began writing and producing songs for artists who could give voice to his words. Thus, Ventriloquism was born. His voice has partially recovered, but we now have a collection of songs performed by others in his latest release.

In Arn’s words, “There are no artificial sweeteners or synthetic additives, only seasoned musicians and singers.” Some have performed at the Grand Ole Opry and on stages in England, Italy, and Russia. Now, they are lending their significant talent to Ventriloquism.

The first single, What a Heart Must Do,” is being released to all major streaming services in February 2025. The song is a heartfelt ballad performed by Kerri Hardwick, accompanied by the brilliant piano stylings of Arcangelo Trabucco and the string arrangement and orchestration of Maria Grig.

Lyrically, it is about a bond that is stronger than any other—the one between mother and child. The style is a bit of a departure from Arn’s previous work. He calls it “classical folk rock.” Arn set words to the hymn tune St. Columba for Four-Octave Carillon and incorporated parts of Gustav Holst’s suite The Planets.
